Doctor Salvatore Battaglia was born in Palermo (Italy) in 1974. He graduated MD cum laude in 1998 at Palermo University, School of Medicine. He performed his residency programme in Respiratory Medicine at the same University (1999-2002). He spent a training period of 15 months (2001-2002) at the Department of Pulmonology, Leiden University Medical Centre, Leiden, The Netherlands. In the 2006 he graduated PhD in “Fisiopatologia Respiratoria Sperimentale” (experimental respiratory pathophysiology) at Parma University. His present position is “Ricercatore Universitario” (Assistant Professor) of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Palermo. His research activity is focused on asthma and COPD in the fields of small airways, systemic aspects of COPD, oxidative stress, non-invasive techniques, health related quality of life and chronic obstruction in elderly patients. His h-index is 11, as calculated by Scopus (updated: June 2013).
