Biography

Emeritus Professor at the University Autonoma of Barcelona (Spain)
Emilio Luque is currently an Emeritus Professor of Computer Architecture and Technology in the Computer Architecture and Operating Systems (CAOS) Department at University Autonoma of Barcelona (UAB), Spain.
He received the Licenciate (Master) and PhD degrees, both in Physics, from the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) in 1968 and 1973 respectively.
At the UAB, he has served as Chairman of the Electricity and Electronics Department for three periods, Chairman of the Computer Science Department for four periods, and Chairman of the Computer Architecture and Operating System (CAOS) Department for one period. He has been, from 2007 to 2009, coordinator of the Master in “Computational Science and Engineering” (CSE) at the UAB.
Member of the Advisory Board of the Master in “High Performance Computing” and member of the Board of the PhD program in “Computer Science”, both at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), Argentina.
From 1980, he has been steadily awarded research grants in competitive open calls from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (12 National Research projects) and from 1994, he has been involved, leading his research group, in several research project (SEPP, HPCTI, FOREMMS, APART, INFLAME, SPREAD, CrossGrid, H4H. . ) founded by the European Union (EU).
He has been invited professor/researcher in Universities of USA, Argentina, Brazil, Poland, Ireland, Cuba, Italy, Germany, Paraguay, Chile and PR of China, and key note speakers in several Conferences in Computer Science. Currently invited researcher at the III-LIDI. Faculty of Computer Science. National University of La Plata. Argentina
He has been the supervisor of 25 PhD thesis (four of these with Outstanding dissertation award), and of these doctors, four of them are now Professors, eight of them are Associate Professors, three of them are in post-doc positions and five of them are researchers or lecturers at different academic or research institutions and companies.
He served on many boards and advisory councils of research agencies (Spanish Research Council, French Agency for Research Evaluation (AERES), Spanish National Agency for Research Evaluation (ANEP), Research Agency of the Chezc Republic, National Institute for Research in Computer Science (INRIA)). Referee for different technical journals: Computer (IEEE), IEEE Parallel & Distributed Technology, IEEE Trans. on Computers, IEEE Concurrency, Procc. IEE. Part E "Computers and Digital Techniques”, Journal of Systems Architecture, Electronics Letters. Associated Editor of the ACM-Journal of Educational Resources in Computing (JERIC), Member of the Computer Science Editorial Board of The Scientific World Journal and Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Computer Science & Technology.
Research recognitions: Best Paper Award at the Eleventh International Conference on Advances in System Simulation, (SIMUL 2019), Best Paper Award at the Seventh International Conference on Advances in System Simulation. (SIMUL 2015), Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS 2012); Outstanding Paper Award at the International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS 2011) and Distinguished Paper at the European Conference on Parallel Processing (Euro-Par 2006).
