Biography
Vera Neves holds a PhD degree in Bionanotechnology, obtained as part of a Marie Curie Network - CARBIO. She is currently senior research staff at iMM and an invited assistant professor at Faculty of medicine from Lisbon University. Her work has centered around drug delivery systems, blood-brain barrier, peptides, neurotherapies, and nanomedicine. She has published 16 papers in international peer reviewed journals with over 650 citations (h-index of 11). Of these, three were published in major multidisciplinary scientific journals with impact factor of 10 or more (Trends in biotech., Adv. Funct. Mat. and ACS nano). Three publications were published as senior or corresponding author. Her work has led to a two patents and she has applied for national funding with four accepted projects. She is responsible for project management, including ethical approval of in vivo studies, and Lab purchases planning. Dra Neves has supervised several students, four students have completed their masters and one student has completed her PhD. In addition to teaching biochemistry as assistant professor, she has given seminars in PhD programs, Master Programs from university of Lisbon. She presented her work in several international meetings, with four oral presentations (2 selected communications as a PhD student, and 2 invited communications as a post-doc). She has lived 6 years abroad, working in both in industrial (Biopeptides Corp., USA) and academic (University of Surrey, UK) environments. During her PhD, she spent 3 months in Poland and as a Postdoc 5 months in Spain. To become an independent researcher she has collaborations with different groups from different backgrounds, such as therapeutic antibodies (TechnoPhage SA); microbiology and immunology (CIISA-FMV); nuclear sciences (C2TN/IST); pharmaceutical sciences (FFUL); and material science (FCT-UNL). Finally, to improve her research capacities she has attended several training courses and workshops, such as laboratory animal science accreditation, and leadership and management skills course for scientists. Dra Neves had to interrupt her research activities for maternity leave in 2014 and 2016, for a period of 6 months.
