Biography
Dr. Talerngsak Kanjanabuch is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, where he also serves as the Director of the Center of Excellence in Kidney Metabolic Disorders. His leadership extends to his role as Secretary-General and Executive Member of The Nephrology Society of Thailand (NST).
Internationally, Dr. Kanjanabuch holds several influential positions, including Deputy Chair of the OSEA Regional Board of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and Chapter Leader for the ISPD-Asia-Pacific Chapter. He is an active member of the Councils for both the ISN and the Asia Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN). He has also served as an Executive Member of the Cross-Regional Education and Exchange in Dialysis (CREED) Steering Committee from 2008 to 2023. His contributions include serving on the International Steering Committee for the Peritoneal Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (PDOPPS), the ISN Nominating Committee (2024-2025), and the Global Steering Committee for STEP-PD 2024. Additionally, Dr. Kanjanabuch plays critical editorial roles as a member of the Editorial Board of Peritoneal Dialysis International (PDI), Glomerular Chapter Editor of Nephrology (Carlton), Deputy Editor of the ISPD-APC Newsletter, and Editorial Board member of Advances in Therapy.
Dr. Kanjanabuch’s research focuses on clinical and translational science in peritoneal dialysis (PD) and glomerular diseases. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles and more than 60 book chapters, with his work garnering over 7,200 citations on Google Scholar. His achievements have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Young Investigator Awards from ISPD Congresses in Montreal (2001) and Hong Kong (2006), the Jonas Bergstrom Best Abstract Award (Mexico City, 2010), the Outstanding Young Physician Award (2017), multiple Best Oral/Poster Research Awards from the NST, and the Outstanding Research Award (2020) from the Royal College of Physicians of Thailand. He has also received the Research Awards from the NST in 2021, 2023, and 2024, as well as the AJKD Editors’ Choice Award (2023).
Dr. Kanjanabuch is renowned for his leadership in global collaborative research projects that translate findings into impactful clinical practices. His key contributions include the development of the 2018 KDIGO Hepatitis C in CKD Guideline, the 2022 ISPD Peritonitis Guidelines, the 2023 KDIGO Controversies Conference on Home Dialysis, the 2023 KDIGO Symptom-Based Complications Guidelines, the 2024 ISPD Statement on Assisted PD, and the ongoing International Home Dialysis Consortium (IHDC). He has also been instrumental in several international trials, including PDOPPS, SONG-PD, ISPD-GREX, ISPD-MYTH, VISTERRA, ELEDON, Otsuka OLE, Otsuka VISIONARY, ALXN1210-IgAN-320, and STEP-PD.
Beyond research, Dr. Kanjanabuch is a passionate advocate for advancing global nephrology practices, notably through his engagement with policymakers on Thailand’s ‘PD First’ Policy. His dedication to improving kidney health worldwide has made him a respected and influential figure in the nephrology community.
