Jesús J. Pérez-Torrente obtained his Ph.D. in 1989 from the University of Zaragoza. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Oxford University (1990-91) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. J. M. Brown, Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry in 1995, and full Professor in 2010 at the University of Zaragoza.
His main research interest focuses on coordination and organometallic chemistry, and homogeneous catalysis. He is co-author of more than 100 scientific papers and revisions related with: i) the design of polydentate ligands for the controlled synthesis polynuclear transition metal complexes, ii) synthesis, reactivity and catalytic activity of early-late transition metal sulfido clusters, iii) metalloligands design for application in supramolecular chemistry, iv) development of organometallic systems based on functionalized phosphine and NHC ligands with hemilabile character for catalytic applications. These include: C-H activation and functionalization of hydrocarbon bonds, hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds, functionalization of unsaturated substrates (hydroamination, hydrosilylation, hydrothiolation) and alkynes polymerization.
He is co-autor of the textbook: Química (Editorial Santillana, 1997, ISBN: 84-294-4904-3). He was former Secretary of Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Catálisis Homogénea (IUCH) (2004-2012), and currently, Vicedirector of the Research Institute de Síntesis Química y Catálisis Homogénea (ISQCH).
