Lajos Somogyvári

Biography

I was born in 1979, in Pécs. Graduated at the University of Pécs, in the Faculty of Arts in 2006, my major subjects were History, Grammar and Literature. The same year I started the Doctoral program ’Education and Society’ in Pécs. Beside the Ph.D studies I had been working as a teacher of Hungarian Grammar, Literature and History in the Rudnay Secondary Grammar School in Tab, Somogy County, from 2006 to 2014.
I worked in several projects – program for children with disabilities, mentoring students in different issues and plans of social and environmental responsibility, with the help of Ashoka and Flextronics cooperation. In Sevilla, Spain I examined the problems of inequalities of education and gender relations in 2009, supported by the Leonardo da Vinci Program. Several exhibitions were organized by me, for example: about deporteed Germans after the second World War, and a picture history of a school.
My writings and reviews about different subjects in the field history of education have been published in the professional journals of Magyar Pedagógia (Hungarian Pedagogy), Iskolakultúra (School of Culture), Új Pedagógiai Szemle (New Pedagogical Review), Századok (Centuries), Múltunk (Our Past), Aetas and in the Educatio. English language articles were published in Italy, Canada and Romania. I have presented my studies in different conferences, for example in Debrecen, Eger, Pécs, Veszprém, Dublin (Ireland), Miercurea Ciuc (Romania) and other spaces. Since 2011 I analyzed Hungarian Educational journals with professor Géczi, my doctoral thesis is based upon the iconographical interpretations of the images of 1960’s Hungary.
In 2013, I won the Pedagogical Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, with a monography, called „Places of Knowledge-Transmission Inside and Outside the School (1960-1970)”. In 2014, my doctoral defence’ final result was summa cum laude, since 2015 I have been a member of the editorial board Iskolakultúra (School of Culture) and worked as an assistant lecturer in the Teacher Training Centre of the Pannon University, Veszprém.
My first book was published in 2015, with the title "Ikonográfia a neveléstörténet-írásban" ("Iconography in the History of Education"), by the Gondolat Publishing House. Since 2015 I have been analyzed the process of the socialist "school-reforms" between 1958 and 1965, in a comparative context.
