Biography
Professor Bryan Gaensler is a Canada Research Chair at The University of Toronto and is Director of the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy And Astrophysics. He received his PhD from The University of Sydney in 1998, and subsequently held positions at MIT, the Smithsonian, Harvard University and the University of Sydney, before moving to Toronto in 2015. He has authored over 400 refereed papers on cosmic magnetism, neutron stars, supernovae and the interstellar medium, while his popular astronomy book "Extreme Cosmos" was published worldwide by Penguin in July 2012 and has been translated into five other languages. He was the 1999 Young Australian of the Year, gave the 2001 Australia Day Address to the nation, was awarded Australia's 2011 Pawsey Medal for outstanding research, and in 2013 was elected to the Australian Academy of Science.
