Biography

PhD in Physics (University College, Dublin), Professor at Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, member of ICTA (UAB). Head of the Radiometrics Laboratory at the IAEA Monaco Laboratories (2004 – 2009). AT present, Senior Researcher at the Marine Sciences and Limnology Institute at UNAM, Mexico.

Specialist in the use of radionuclides and isotopes as tracers of environmental processes, with special emphasis in the marine environment: biogeochemical processes in the water column and sediments, recent radiochronology, records of environmental change, fluxes and impacts of pollutants. Current interests include Global and Climate Change, from recent environmental records to the quantification and understanding of key environmental processes. Director of 10 PhD thesis. Author of over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 40books chapters, over 200 contributions to Symposia and 6 books. He is Editor of Earth-Science Reviews (Elsevier) for Environmental Geochemistry.
