Biography
James Batista Vieira is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Public Management at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Institute of Social and Political Studies at the State University of Rio de Janeiro and has an extensive academic background spanning multiple disciplines. His degrees include a Bachelor's in Political Science from the University of Brasília and a Law degree from UFPB. Additionally, he earned Master's degrees in Political Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance (Germany), and in Economics, Government Management, and International Organizations from Bocconi University (Italy).
Dr. Vieira completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and is actively involved in graduate education. He teaches in the Public Management Graduate Program at UFPB and the Political Science Graduate Program at the Federal University of Campina Grande. He is a registered attorney at the Brazilian Bar Association.
As the Coordinator of the Public Contracts and Government Innovation Laboratory (LabGov UFPB), Dr. Vieira leads research and initiatives focused on enhancing public performance. He is the author of several books, including: Corruption: Concept, Measurement, and Theoretical Framework (2019), Governance, Risk Management, and Integrity (2021), and Fundamentals of Public Management (2023).
