Biography
Iside Gjergji is a Senior Researcher at CES. In April 2004 she got her PhD position in Sociology of Migration and Cultures at the University of Salento (Italy), after a degree in Law at the University of Bari (Italy), where she grasped the opportunity to deepen her knowledge in this field. In May 2008 she discussed her PhD thesis on 'Administrative circular letters as an instrument of governance for migratory movements in Italy: a sociological analysis". She has been Lecturer at Stanford University; Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and she is a Lecturer and permanent member of the academic board of the MA course "Immigration and Transformation of Society" at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice (Italy). She has studied various aspects of the migration phenomenon such as administrative detention centers of immigrants in Europe, institutional racism, authoritarian management of migratory movements in Italy, as well as the legal and social condition of immigrant minors in Italy, Spain and France. Recently she has been focused on 1) migration, security and racism; 2) 'infra-law' issues and social consequences of the 'new' (neoliberal/postmodern) ways of producing rules; 3) torture; 4) labour issues; 5) social movements in North Africa; 6) internships and education.
