Biography
Mohamed Fathi Abdallah, Toxicologist and researcher at Human Biology and Toxicology, University of Mons, Belgium.
He received his B.S. in Veterinary Medical Sciences from Assiut University, Egypt. At Hacettepe University in Turkey, Mohamed obtained his Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Toxicology (through the 𝑇𝑢𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝐺𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝) after conducting his master thesis on mycotoxin analysis through an 𝐸𝑟𝑎𝑠𝑚𝑢𝑠+ exchange scholarship at University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) in Tulln, Austria. During his Master's, he was also awarded another 𝐸𝑟𝑎𝑠𝑚𝑢𝑠+ internship to join the Chemical Risks Group at 𝐼𝑓𝐴𝐷𝑜 Institute in Dortmund, Germany.
In August 2016, he joined the Centre of Excellence of Mycotoxicology & Public Health, Ghent University, Belgium for his PhD to work on mitigation of toxigenic fungi and their mycotoxins. His PhD work was part of 𝑀𝑦𝑐𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑦 project which was funded by the EU Horizon 2020.
Mohamed then traveled to Dublin, Ireland where he was a research scientist at Teagasc Food Research Centre in Ashtown, in the framework of the European project 𝘈𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘹. Since October 2020, he moved back to Belgium to start his postdoc as a fellow of the Ghent University-Special Research Fund (BOF).
In October 2023, he was awarded an F.N.R.S mandate and he joined the Human Biology and Toxicology department, University of Mons, Belgium.
His m̲a̲j̲o̲r̲ ̲r̲e̲s̲e̲a̲r̲c̲h̲ ̲i̲n̲t̲e̲r̲e̲s̲t̲s̲ include applying LC-MS/MS methods for detection of mycotoxins and cyanotoxins. Also, in vitro toxicity testing of micro- and nano-plastics, mycotoxin and cyanotoxins. He is also keen on conducting research on food safety in Africa.
In his free time, he loves cooking and watching football.
