Biography

Prof. Gitau is a passionate academician and researcher with research interests spanning Epidemiology, Food Security, One Health, and Development. He has over 30 years of experience providing leadership in transdisciplinary research, capacity building, education, and policy having supervised over fifty postgraduate students, authored/co-authored 100+ publications, and initiated and developed and implemented over 20 consultancies/grants. He has received over USD 8.3 million in research funding, and developed and leads the only Animal Health Innovation Laboratory in Africa, based at the University of Nairobi (with Washington State University/International Livestock Research Institute. Complementarily, he has also served as Ag. Chair of Department, Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and a Senate Representative for the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. He is currently the Executive Chair of the Board of Trustees for the University of Nairobi Pension Scheme which is a USD 135 million fund. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the East African Journal of Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Chair of the Science, Technology, and Innovation committee of the East African Community. He is also currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada.
