Biography
Eduardo A. Undurraga is an Associate Professor and Director of Research at the School of Government at UC. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from UC and a Master’s in Latin American Social and Political Studies from Universidad Alberto Hurtado. Eduardo earned his Ph.D. in Social Policy from Brandeis University as a Fulbright Scholar. In 2023, he received the Dr. Eduardo Charreau Award for Regional Scientific-Technological Cooperation (Estímulo), granted by the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI).
Eduardo’s research bridges the social sciences and human health, with a focus on marginalized populations in Latin America. His work explores the social and cultural determinants of health, the dynamics and economics of infectious diseases, and the evaluation of public health programs and interventions. His interdisciplinary background and diverse experience, spanning urban informal settlements, government, and academic settings, provide a strong foundation for impactful research.
With an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, Eduardo has published over 130 scientific articles, including leading journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Nature, PNAS, and the American Journal of Epidemiology. His research has been featured in international media outlets, including CNN International, El País, O Globo, Scientific American, The Economist, and The New York Times. His scholarly work has informed public policy with collaborations that include local and national governments, as well as global organizations such as the such as the Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative, the CDC Foundation, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization.
