Biography
Clemens Stachl is Associate Professor of Behavioral Science at the University of St. Gallen and Director of the Institute of Behavioral Science and Technology. He received his diploma in psychology from the University of Graz and his PhD in psychology from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (LMU). Before coming to St. Gallen, he was a postdoctoral researcher at LMU and Stanford University. Stachl's research lies at the intersection of psychology, data science, and computer science. In particular, he focuses on predicting, describing, and explaining psychological phenomena (e.g., personality traits) using methods from computer science and statistics. In 2019, he received the Digital Diagnostics Award from the German Psychological Society for his work on personality prediction from smartphone digital behavioral data. Other aspects of his research focus on personalization of digital systems, ethical implications of technologies, human factors, and cybersecurity.
