Biography

Since 01/2016 Dr. Matthias Esch is Deputy Director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Delme Klinikum Delmenhorst, a regional hospital which underwent numerous changes of names following changes of ownership.
He started clinical training in 1996 after receiving the MD degree and the title of Doctor of Medicine (Dr. med.) from Philipps-Universität Marburg/Lahn in Germany for the thesis „Response of adrenocorticotropin- and cortisole scretion to provocation by cortisol-releasing hormone in patients with sleep related breathing disorders“.
He completed training in general Surgery in 2003 and had been an attending physician in the Department of Surgery, training in general surgey, visceral surgery, trauma and orthopedic surgery as well as intensive care.
In 2006 he started training in thoracic surgery which was completed in 2011. Since then he was Senior Surgeon in the Department of Thoracic surgery and in 2012 was promoted to be Consultant in Thoracic Surgery.
In addition to surgical speciality training Matthias Esch studied "Total Quality Management" at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern /Germany (Certificate in 2001) and "Management of Hospitals and Social Institutions" at Universität Witten-Herdecke/Germany, which was completed with the Matsers of Arts degree for the thesis "“Company suggestion system, incentives and wage negotiations in the German hospital system“.
He is also a lecturer at nursing schools in Delmenhorst and Bremen an had been involved in the training of physical therapists.
After gaining broad experience in different surgical specialities and intensive care, Matthias Esch served in the management of the Department for Thoracic Surgery as well as in the Supervisory Board of the Delme Klinikum Delmenhorst GmbH. He is also engaged in clinical research and peer reviewer for various journals.
