Biography

Dr. Lawrence Bbosa is the Executive Manager of Mintek’s Mineral Processing Division (MPD), where he directs efforts to develop innovative metallurgical solutions that help mining companies transform low-value, impure minerals into commercially viable products. The MPD plays a critical role in advancing technologies utilized in South Africa's mining industry by focusing on commodities of strategic importance such as PGMs, gold, iron ore, chrome, titanium, copper, rare earth elements, and critical minerals like lithium, manganese, graphite and cobalt.

Under Dr. Bbosa’s leadership, the division provides vital products and services to the metallurgical industry, specializing in the three key areas of comminution, physical separation, and flotation to conduct ore characterization, unit and flowsheet optimization, and the development of new technologies. The division also performs comprehensive pilot plant studies and plant audits to ensure mining operations achieve maximum efficiency and economic value. A core focus of the division is also developing predictive models to support mining companies in meeting evolving industry demands. Through collaborations with industry stakeholders and institutions, Dr. Bbosa continues to drive innovation and promote sustainable practices in alignment with circular economy principles within the mining sector, particularly in the reprocessing of waste and the recovery of critical metals necessary for emerging green technologies.
