Biography
Estefanía got her PhD Degree in June 2016, which obtained the highest classification and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. In august 2016, Estefanía gained a postdoctoral fellowship to work under supervision of Prof. Delerue-Matos, who is the head of the Grupo de Reação e Análises Químicas (GRAQ-ISEP, http://www.graq.isep.ipp.pt/, Portugal) and the coordinator of the Environmental Chemistry Group from the REQUIMTE/LAQV (https://laqv.requimte.pt Portugal). Then, Estefanía gained a Clarín-Cofund postdoctoral grant funded by the Government of Principality of Asturias and Marie Curie-Cofund Actions to continue working in REQUIMTE/LAQV-GRAQ. Since February 2021, Estefanía is distinguished researcher “Beatriz Galindo” in the Dept. of Physical and Analytical Chemistry at University of Oviedo (UNIOVI), where she develops her research career, in the Espectrometría y Electroquímica BioNanoAnalíticas group (https://e2bna.grupos.uniovi.es/), and teaches many subjects related to Analytical Chemistry in different Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Estefanía’s scientific area is analytical chemistry, namely (bio)electroanalysis. She has developed a wide variety of electroanalytical methodologies, platforms and sensors, for clinical, food and environmental applications, mainly based on enzymatic or immuno-reactions, but also based on MIPs (molecularly imprinted polymers) and on isothermal reactions of amplification of genetic material. The used transducers were based on conventional three-electrode cells, screen-printed electrodes and paper (or similar/common materials)-based cells, and diverse nanomaterials were employed as transducer modifiers or labels.
Estefanía has co-supervised a PhD Thesis (2020, UNIOVI) and currently is co-supervising another (from REQUIMTE-LAQV). In addition, she has co-supervised 5 Master’s Thesis and 4 Bachelor’s Thesis. She has also established and taught, during three years, one subject in the University Program for Seniors of UNIOVI.
Estefanía has been member of organizing committee in scientific workshops, and for scientific dissemination to the general public: she has published articles for specialized and general audience (e.g., in the magazine of the Official Chemist Association of Asturias y León, and in the journal Tecnoalimentar); has appeared in general TV news features and newspapers to disseminate research projects in which she was working on; has participated in different programs for the immersion in research of high school students; and has collaborated in the organization of events and activities for general audience.
Estefanía has participated as evaluator for national calls from Spain (AEI), Argentina, Chile and Poland, and for an OEI-UE call. She also has reviewed scientific articles for more than 19 indexed scientific JCR journals, and is member of the editorial board of the journal Discovery Electrochemistry.
Estefanía belongs to ISE, RSEQ, SEQA and ANQUE societies.
