Biography
After his PhD in Physics obtained at the Università degli Studi di Palermo (Italy), he moved to Philadelphia (US) to work as post-doctoral researcher at the Drexel University, where he also served as recitation instructor in "Fundamental of Materials" course and mentored students. He investigated on charge-ordering in Perovskites, hybrid-improper ferroelectricity of Ruddelsden-Popper phases, Second Harmonic generation in nonlinear optically active materials among other reasearch projects. Such activities produced in parallel new universal theoretical frameworks, like a new definition of bond covalency and electro-structural rules to design new materials with tunable metal-insulator transition or with enhanced nonlinear optical response.
In the period 2014-2016, he worked as post-doctoral researcher in the Advanced Materials Group at the Department of Control Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic). He is now involved in the ab-initio investigation of nanostructured materials for tribological, electronic, optical and energy harvesting applications. He developed phonon-phonon scattering selection rules and a new lattice-dynamic metric named "cophonicity", the latter able to capture the electro-vibrational coupling and to guide the design of new materials.
From June 2016 until May 2023, he worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Control Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic).
From June 2023, he works as Associate Professor at the Department of Control Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic).
He is an active reviewer for journals such as Nature, Science, Physical Review, Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Materials Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics and Nanoscale, among others.
