Biography
My clinical experience as a paediatric emergency nurse has been a driving foundation of my research, focusing on improving the quality of health care delivery in the acute phases of burn and trauma injury. Ideally improving the experience and long term outcomes. I am an Associate Professor with the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith, working with the NHMRC Wiser Wound Care CRE, and an Honorary Fellow with the Centre for Children's Burns and Trauma Research and Menzies Health Institute Queensland.
As a Fellow of the College of Emergency Nurses Australia and an Executive Member of the Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative (PREDICT CRE), I aim to drive research priorities relevant to our clinicians and consumers. As a member of the Steering Committee of the Burns Registry of Australia and New Zealand and the Injury Prevention Committee for Australia and New Zealand Burns Association, I regularly utilise registry data for research projects, to detect patterns of injury, and opportunities to improve care and health outcomes.
I am supported by the US Department of Defense and NHMRC Partnership Project grants, as well as leading research grants such as:
- Efficacy of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy for Acute Paediatric Burn Injury (SONATA in C and PICO)
- Mary McConnel Children's Hospital Foundation Grant - Burns First Aid Study
- Evaluation of a paediatric inter-facility transfer initiative for acutely unwell children in regional Queensland: Standardised Workflow for Inter-Facility Transfer of Kids [SWIFTKids], Children's Hospital Foundation
-The effectiveness of Cuticerin® with or without a Regenerative Epithelial Suspension (RES™), on pigmentation in donor sites of children: The DRESSing Trial
