Biography
Attard read for a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, a Bachelor in Sacred Theology and a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology at the University of Malta. After two years of full-time ministry in a parish, he then moved to Rome where he obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, during which time he spent a semester at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He defended his doctoral thesis entitled The Structural Scheme Ordering Book II of the Psalter (Psalms 42–72) – A Synchronic Analysis in 2013 at the same Institute in Rome after spending several months conducting research at the École Biblique et Archéologique Française de Jérusalem.
In 2013 Attard was a visiting lecturer in the Department of Sacred Scripture, Hebrew and Greek of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta. In 2014 he became a part-time Resident Academic, and in 2016 a full-timer. In 2022 he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Theology.
Attard is a member of the Polish Collectanea Theologica; the European Association of Biblical Studies; the European Society for Catholic Theology; and The Society for Old Testament Study.
Research Interests: The Old Testament, particularly Exegesis of the Book of Psalms; the Canonical Approach to the Study of Scripture; Metaphors in the Bible; the Masoretic Text; Synchronic Analysis; Knights of Malta.
