Biography

I hold a Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences (2008) from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), where I graduated as second in class rank, with a GPA of 9.3 (in a scale of 0 to 10). I also hold a PhD Degree in Biochemistry (2014) from Universidade Nova de Lisboa - Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (Portugal). I have been a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in this Institute from 2015 until 2021. I have a total of 12 published peer-reviewed scientific articles, 7 of which I am first author, and second author in the remaining 5. I also authored 2 peer-reviewed book chapters, and have another one under review. My work was communicated in 2 oral presentations and 13 poster presentations in national and international scientific congresses and meetings. One of these poster presentations was awarded Best Poster. I was member of the organization of 2 meetings, 1 conference and 1 summer school. I also co-supervised 2 Master students. I have been awarded two competitive fellowships from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Portugal): a PhD Fellowship from the 2009 call and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the 2016 call (position that I am currently holding). I also held contracts (competitive calls) as a Research Fellow at the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology (Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal), within the scope of the FCT project PTDC/SAU-MII/66285/2006, and at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), withing the FCT project PTDC/AAC-CLI/119100/2010 and EEA Grant PT0015. I also held a Post-Doctoral Fellowship contract within the European Research Council Grant MIMESIS (ERC 2014-CoG-647928). I have experience in a great number of areas and techniques, including: microbiology and biochemical tools, optical and fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, gene manipulation, gene expression, quantitative real-time PCR, transcriptomics, proteomics, western blotting, metabolomics, lipid analysis, high-performance chromatography, thin layer chromatography and a variety of chemical methods, and I am comfortable in learning new techniques and establishing new methodologies. Currently I am a R&D Scientist in the private biotechnology company Sea4Us, focusing on the discovery of marine-derived bio-active molecules with potential application in human health. My research interests include cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, mycology, molecular biology and genetics, antimicrobial drug resistance, cellular signaling, lipidomics and health sciences.
