Is currently Associate Editor for Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, as well as for the web-based journal Frontiers in Pharmacology.
Research activity of Prof. Pompella has been dedicated to molecular mechanisms, histochemistry and pathophysiologic effects of oxidant stress and lipid peroxidation, with special reference to the role of glutathione and glutathione-related enzymes. His studies were concerned with the identification in vivo of products of lipid peroxidation, the pro-oxidant effects of membrane-bound gamma-glutamyltransferase activity, protein S-thiolation and redox-related mechanisms of anticancer drug resistance as well as of lung inflammation.
