Biography

Studied Archaeology at the Department of Archaeology in Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of History (1983); completed the postgraduate course at the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1988). Since 1989 - in the Institute of Archaeology Russian Academy of Sciences. Ph.D.: Cultural traditions of the population of Upper Dnieper and Dvina Rivers regions in the 3rd–5th centuries AD (2000). Academic Supervisor V.V. Sedov. Key research interests: Ethnogenesis of the Slavs; Cultural and ethnic processes of the I millennium AD in the Upper Dnieper and North-West Russian Plain regions; History and archaeology of Izborsk; Medieval ceramics of North-West Rus’; Methodology for research of archaeological ceramics. Other Professional Activities: Editor-in-chief of annuals "Archaeological Discoveries" (since 2004) and "Archaeology and History of Pskov and Pskov land"; Member of ICOMOS. Archaeological Field Works: Pskov and Smolensk regions, Izborsk, Chukotka.
