Biography
Renhong Yan is an Assistant Professor, Associate Researcher and a Ph.D. supervisor at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). He graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the School of Life Sciences at Shandong University in July 2014 and obtained his Ph.D. from the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University in July 2019, under the supervision of Academician Nieng Yan. He then conducted postdoctoral research at the School of Life Sciences at Westlake University under Academician Yigong Shi. In November 2021, he joined the School of Medicine at SUSTech to establish his research group.
In the past five years, his research has primarily focused on the molecular mechanisms of pathogenicity in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and the development of targeted drugs, as well as the molecular mechanisms maintaining amino acid metabolism homeostasis in humans. Prior to establishing his independent research group, he published several top-tier papers as the first author or co-first author, including two papers in Nature and three in Science. Since becoming independent, he has published nine high-level papers as the corresponding author, including one in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, two in Nature Communications, two in Science Advances, and four in Cell Discovery.
His work has been cited over 8,800 times according to Google Scholar. He was named an Elsevier "Highly Cited Chinese Researcher" in 2022 and 2023. His other accolades include the First Prize in Natural Science from Zhejiang Province in 2021 (as the second contributor), recognition for significant medical advancements in six major fields in China in 2020, being named one of MIT Technology Review's 35 Innovators Under 35 in 2020, inclusion in the "Top Ten Innovative Achievements" of the National Postdoctoral Program in 2020, and significant medical progress in the field of pharmacy in 2019.
