Biography
I started my scientific career as a bachelor's degree student after obtaining a scholarship financed by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in the research group of “Sensores químicos y biosensores” at the Analytical Chemistry Department of the UAM. Since then, I have carried out a continuous research in this group. In 2005 I received a FPU scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Technology to try out my phD thesis “Biosensores selectivos de ADN basados en un nuevo indicador electroquímico y nanopartículas de oro”. During this predoctoral stage I published 6 articles in prestigious journals in the field of Analytical Chemistry (4 of them in the highest impact index in the area). In addition, the research gave rise to 14 communications to national and international congresses. After finishing my phD, I was hired, to continue my research in the DNA biosensors, funded by the UAM and financed by the company DIGNA-Biotech through a contract stated in article 83 of the Organic Law of Universities. As a result of these investigations 2 patents emerged. Specifically, the patent that fundamentally constitutes the research of my thesis, was made use of this company. Moreover, in 2010, that patent was awarded with the best patent prize by the Foundation madri+d in its eighth edition. In 2011, I obtained a postdoctoral scholarship of the Caja Madrid Foundation (“Beca de movilidad del profesorado universitario”) to research at the Liverpool university, in particular in the nanochemistry group, led by Professor Mathias Brust. During these years I have collaborated with different international (Cornell University) or national (ICMAB, IMDEA, CIMA) research groups or hospitals as La Paz hospital. In summary, since my incorporation to the “Sensores químicos y biosensores” group in 2003, I have published 35 research articles in journals indexed in the JCR, 31 of them in the first quartile (Q1) and more than half of them in journals of the first decile of the Analytical Chemistry area. These articles have received more than 589 citations. From these publications, 25 have been published in the last 10 years I am the first author in 13 of them and corresponding author of 3 of them. Taking these data into account, the web of science (WOS) calculates an H index of 14. Furthermore, I have directed or co-directed seven End-of-Degree Projects, one End-of-Master Project.Currently I am directing two doctoral thesis one of them financed by the FPU program of the Spanish Ministry, one End-of-Degree Projects and 3 End-of-Master Project. I have also participated in 20 research projects financed by different entities (National Plan, Community of Madrid, UAM-Banco Santander, European commission) and 4 of them have been contracts stated in article 83 of the organic law of universities. I am currently principal researcher (IP2) of a National Plan of Researching. Moreover, I am a member of the Network of "Electrochemical Sensors and Biosensors" funded by the Ministry of Economy. Nowadays, I am subscribed to the ‘Research Institutes of Excellence’ (IMDEA) Nanoscience of the Community of Madrid and to the ‘Advanced Research Institute in Chemical Sciences’ of the UAM. The research work carried out has been disclosed in 39 contributions to national and international congresses. Of all, 17 have been oral contributions and 2 conferences. During these years, my research has been recognized with 2 six-year terms (2004-09 and 2010-15) one in progress (2016-21). Along with my research work, I have participated in different scientific dissemination activities (la noche de los investigadores, publications in newspapers such as La Razon or La Gazette of the UAM).
