Biography
My research focuses on the political mobilization of extremist and violent movements. Specifically, I analyze mobilization processes within the global jihadist movement, seeking to understand their macro, meso, and micro-level drivers. My work addresses two long-standing dilemmas in social movement studies and, more specifically, in terrorism research. First, differential recruitment—the reasons why only a fraction of those who sympathize with a political cause actually mobilize. Second, differential participation—the factors that explain why some activists persist in their involvement while others choose to disengage.
