Our group closely surround the clinical needs, persisting to face the clinical conundrum in carrying out the corresponding applied basic research.The introduction of corneal nerves into the clinical and basic field of corneal wound repair has been pioneered at home and abroad, elucidating the key pathogenesis of diabetic keratopathy, and forming a distinct research character and advantage. In terms of stem cells and tissue-engineered corneas, the development and clinical applications of tissue-engineered corneal epithelial technology and acellular corneal stroma products have been completed, and the application has now been promoted in over 100 hospitals throughout the country, cumulatively benefiting more than 4500 patients, breakthrough progress has also been made in the tissue-engineered corneal endothelium that is being developed, and conventional animal and large animal trials have been completed. It is expected to provide a new solution to completely solve the severe shortage of corneal donors in China.
