Biography
Dr Mangelsdorf researched the causes of neurological disorders as well as the challenges and implications of translating research from a clinical setting to broader society. Her laboratory based research culminated as head of the Peter Goodenough and Wantoks Laboratory focussed on understanding motor neuron disease.
She was a member of the Genomics in Society project team, researching the ethical, legal, social and/or public policy aspects of public health genomics. In this role, she used her knowledge of human genetics and genomics technologies to manage an interdisciplinary research group to make recommendations around the responsible use of technology in a healthcare setting. Her research has been published in high impact journals including Nature Genetics and Cell, with two publications featuring in the Faculty of 1000 significant articles.
Marie has interest in ethical research and has held membership for a Human Research Ethics Committee, and a Low Notifiable Risk Subcommittee (The University of Queensland). She was a member the Animal Welfare Advisory Board that provides expert advice to the Queensland Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, and a past Animal Ethics Committee member (The University of Queensland).
