Biography

Dr Yong Yan obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Wei-Sheng Liu from Lanzhou University, China (2006) and Ph.D. in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Martin Schröder at the University of Nottingham, UK (2011). He continued as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Schröder in Nottingham, then as a senior research fellow in the University of Manchester working with Nobel Prize Laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart (2015), before moving to the University of Liverpool to work with Prof. Matthew J. Rosseinsky FRS (2016). In 2021, he joined Prof. Ya-Qian Lan's group in South China Normal University as an associate professor in materials characterisations and X-ray structural analysis. In 2022, he was promoted to a full professor in chemistry. Dr Yan's research interest is focused on the frontiers of functional framework materials involving novel design and synthesis of new structures, structural characterisations from single-crystal and powder X-Ray diffraction, in situ studies of substrate-loaded porous systems by a variety of advanced techniques such as synchrotron X-ray/neutron diffraction/scattering/spectroscopy methods, and catalysis applications.
