Biography

Selene Solorza-Calderón received her Bachelor's degree in Applied Math from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), Mexico, in 1997; her MSc degree in Earth Sciences from Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada (CICESE), Mexico, in 1999; and her Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences from CICESE in 2005. Since 2003, she has been a researcher in the Math Area at the Faculty of Sciences, UABC. Her research interests include image processing, pattern recognition in digital images, and wave propagation in poroelastic media. Selene is the author of several scientific papers, textbook chapters, patent No. 411186 titled Local Feature’s Wavelet Descriptor (CLW), the copyright software titled CLWT,
and presentations at scientific conferences. Also, she was invited to give short courses on pattern recognition at international conferences. She reviews research projects and papers in her fields of expertise. She was the leader of research projects supported by CONACyT and PROMEP. Selene is the advisor of Ph.D., MSc, and Bachelor's thesis. Selene is a member of the Mexican National Research System (SNI), the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), and a member of the Mexican Mathematical Society (SMM). Also, she had Reconocimiento al Perfil Deseable del Programa para el Desarrollo Profesional Docente, para el tipo superior (PRODEP). She was a member of the Accreditation Committee of the Council for Accreditation of Educational Programs in Mathematics (CAPEM), period 2016-2020. She was also a vocal member of the Directing Board of the CAPEM, period 2020-2022.
