Biography
Letícia Campos is a 5th-year medical student at Universidade de Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil). There, she worked as the leading student on the Brazilian team that collaborates with the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change (PGSSC). She is a Visiting Graduate Student at PGSSC for the academic year 2022-2023, working at the Surgical Epidemiology, Trauma Systems & Geographic Inequalities Lab. In the program, Letícia works with both research and policymaking toward improving the access, safety, and cost-effectiveness of surgical care in Latin America.
Besides her involvement with surgery, Letícia is Project Administrator at the Rare Diseases Community branch of Fundación SPINE (Buenos Aires, Argentina), where she ensures the methodological quality of research projects that will be used to develop tailored management plans for rare disorders.
Additionally, Letícia is a scholarship recipient from the Fundação Maria Emília, a Brazilian nonprofit organization that fosters research projects with social impact; and from Fundação Estudar, which supports and develops the most promising young people and future leaders in Brazil.
Previously, Letícia was appointed to several leadership roles. She was part of the International Student Surgical Network (InciSioN), being a member of the organization's International Team in 2021. At national level, she was Chair of InciSioN Brazil during the 2021-2022 term. Letícia also served in the Association of Women Surgeons at its Medical Student Committee, as Latin America Regional Representative during the 2021-2022 term.
Furthermore, Letícia was the National Officer on Research Exchanges (2019) and the Scientific Team General Assistant at IFMSA Brazil (2020), a national member organization of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).
Her interests include research methodology and integrity, global health, global surgery, clinical epidemiology, and health equity.
