Biography

Bhaja K Padhi, Ph.D., DABT, is a Biologist at the Hazard Identification Division in Environmental Health Science and Research Bureau, Health Canada, Ottawa, Canada. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology since 2014, Dr. Padhi's expertise in the field is apparent from his original research published in various journals, including Nature, Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, Neurotoxicology, Toxicology Letters, and Analytical Biochemistry. During his research career, Dr. Padhi worked at various science institutions in Canada, India, and the USA and used different in vitro and in vivo model systems (e.g., neuronal cells, rats, and zebrafish) and methods (e.g., genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics) for genetics, genomics and toxicological research. He conducted post-doctoral research at Ottawa Health Research Institute, University of Ottawa, Ottawa. He secured a "Certificate in Bioinformatics" accredited by the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and worked as a Visiting Scientist at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Padhi is a member of various professional societies, including the Society of Toxicology, USA, the International Neurotoxicology Association, the Netherlands, and a research manuscript reviewer of several international journals. As a member of the Discovery Grant's Evaluation Group for Genes, Cells, and Molecules (2023-2026) within the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), he reviews research proposals of scientists across Canada for funding decisions. Dr. Padhi is a planning and steering committee member (2016- present) of the Health Canada Science Forum (HCSF), an annual event showcasing Health Canada's science. He has been instrumental in organizing and chairing scientific sessions, reviewing research abstracts and co-chairing the poster competition award sub-committee. His leadership in these roles has influenced HCSF's impact on the Health Canada community.
