Biography

For several decades I have been an acknowledged leader in applying methods from physical science to living systems. I have served as chair of the Biological Physics division of the American Physical Society and the Biological Physics interest group of the National Academy of Sciences, to which I was elected in 2011. I am on the editorial board of PNAS, am associate editor of Physical Review Letters and the new Cancer Convergence journal. I manage of group of approximately ten students and postdoctoral fellows and especially with regard to my research into cancer, have established a network of collaborators from the biology and biomedicine communities. Currently I am co-director of a National Science Foundation Physics Frontier Center devoted to theoretical biological physics.
