Biography
Dr. Ahmed Khalafallah is an Associate Professor of Construction Engineering and Management at Kuwait University (KU). Prior to joining KU, he worked at Western Kentucky University as the Director of the Construction Management Program, and an Assistant Professor in the AMS Department; and before that as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Khalafallah holds a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, with Computational Science and Engineering Option, from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He accumulated more than 20 years of industrial, research and teaching experience at a number of leading institutes, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Central Florida, Western Kentucky University, University of Southern Mississippi, and Queen's University of Belfast. His current research interests are in the areas of sustainable construction, computational intelligence, construction optimization, planning and maintenance of infrastructure projects, quality control, risk and uncertainty management, and cost analysis of construction operations. Khalafallah has numerous publications in these areas, including a recent book entitled “Construction Site Layouts: An Optimization Approach to Planning and Managing Airport Expansion Projects.” He has received several awards and honors: including the Builders of the Realm Award for outstanding research from UCF, the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and W.E. O’Neil Fellowship.
