Biography
Dr. Shalin Hai-Jew works as a grant writer at Hutchinson Community College, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She started this role in mid-October 2023. She co-edited the "HutchCC Grant Navigator" with Karen Linn for over a year...and has since transitioned to "Academic Grant Pursuits" newsletter.
From January 2006 - August 2023, Hai-Jew worked as an instructional designer at Kansas State University. Prior, she was a tenured faculty member at Shoreline Community College in Washington State. She has taught at college and university level for many years. She worked in the People's Republic of China from 1988 - 1990, 1992 - 1994, the latter two years with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the auspices of the U.S. Peace Corps.
She has BAs in English and psychology and an MA in English from the University of Washington, which she tested into at 14. She has a doctorate in Educational Leadership (with a focus on Public Administration) from Seattle University, where she was a Morford Scholar. Her doctoral dissertation addressed the role of trust in online learning.
Over the years, she has written a number of nonfiction books and edited others, related to education, instructional design, peer entertainment, and common art. She reviews for various professional journals. She has published broadly in peer-reviewed and edited publications.
In an earlier life, she wrote and published poetry and won a number of local and national awards (including one from Columbia University).
She was born in Huntsville, Alabama.
