Biography

Personal Statement
I am an academic gastroenterologist with a special interest in the clinical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). My primary research aim is optimising advanced imaging techniques aimed at measuring inflammation and fibrosis in IBD. I am the clinical lead of the Simple Trials in Applied Research team within Nottingham Clinical trials Unit. We specialise in delivering large pragmatic trials in primary care using routinely collected coded data sets. Together with collaborators at the University of Nottingham we create large deeply phenotypes cohorts. I specialise in the design and delivery of phase 3/4 clinical trials.
I am the lead author of the BSG IBD guidelines for 2025.
I presently supervise 5 PhD students, 2 post-doctoral scientist and 1 IBD fellows. I am the academic and clinical IBD theme lead within the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre and IBD Section Committee Member for the British Society of Gastroenterology and IBD expert member for the National Institute of Health Research Trent Clinical Research Network.
