Biography

My research areas include air quality evaluation systems based on the control of concentration levels of volatile organic compounds (VOC), semivolatile organic compounds (SVOC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). In our laboratory, we have developed new methodologies for the analysis and control of the urban air quality (both indoor and outdoor) to evaluate simultaneously the odour episodes and assess air quality through several instruments: evaluation methodologies (chemical control, social participation and numeric modelling), environmental indicators determination, and generation of a database for the study of the potentially negative health effects of atmospheric pollution. Additionally, other fields related to the occurrence of VOC in the atmospheric environment are also of our interest: Sick Building Syndrome, building materials emissions, biogenic emissions (plants and animals), exhaled air VOC emissions to determine illnesses, soil and subsoil emissions in closed landfills, use of filters to diminish atmospheric pollution indoors and use of catalysts to eliminate odours and VOC present in dwellings.
