Biography
Since 2024, Guilherme Ferreira has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, developing research on microplastic contamination in aquatic environments, focusing on the deep-sea biota. He dedicated his doctoral (2016-2019) and master’s (2014-2016) in biological oceanography from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) to study the life cycle of the estuarine top predators from Northeast Brazil, including species of economic interest. He described the seasonal migration patterns, pinpointing the nursery habitats and the main feeding resources according to each ontogenetic phase. Additionally, he identified that these species were contaminated by microplastics and described the relationship between their ecological patterns and microplastic ingestion. He graduated in oceanography from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) (2010-2014) studying the impacts of agricultural land use on the fish community from the Amazon Forest streams.
