Biography
Frank Osterloh is an inorganic chemist working on nanostructured solar energy conversion devices. He received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry in 1994 and 1997 from the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany, after working under the guidance of the late Prof. Siegfried Pohl. He then completed postdoctoral training at Harvard University with Prof. Richard H. Holm, after which he joined the faculty at the Chemistry Department at the University of California, Davis, in 2000. Frank Osterloh’s current research interests are centered on the chemical and photophysical properties of inorganic materials and their use for solar energy to fuel conversion. This includes the development of photocatalysts for overall water splitting (artificial photosynthesis) and the study of photochemical charge transfer reactions with surface photovoltage spectroscopy.
