Biography

I am a medical sociologist with expertise in public health governance and policy. I have researched in these areas for more than twenty five years. I have a distinguished record of publication and income generation as well as community engagement and impact and delivery of strategic partnerships across the higher education, public and voluntary sectors.

An experienced senior leader in higher education, I was Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Law (formerly Social Sciences, Business and Law) for seven years. I was conferred with a personal chair in social policy in 2015. I am currently Professor in Public Policy. I have previously held numerous roles from Assistant Dean to Head of Department, as well as various teaching and research positions. I was most recently founding Director of the Institute for Social Innovation.

I have held several voluntary leadership roles in the public and third sectors, for example, as appointed Chair of Healthwatch South Tees (2013-23).
