Biography
I am interested on three main areas. My first research interest is functional epigenetics, or the effect of epigenetic processes on gene regulation. The second thread is the generation and use of epigenotyping tools to 1. study the importance of epigenetics on the expression of phenotypes; 2.identify stresses, describe the source material (tissue/organ/cell type) or to establish its physiological, developmental state or sex. This line of research has an applied side since epigenetic markers can be used in variety of fields such as medicine (nutrigenomics), forensics, agriculture, food quality and security. On a more fundamental side epigenetic markers are an effective forward genetic tool to identify genes regulated by epigenetic processes. The final thread that binds the two previous together is to study the importance of epigenetic effects on evolutionary biology both by facilitating adaptation to changing environments and by accelerating the ratio of base substitution.
