Marco T. Bastos joined the Department of Sociology at City, University of London in 2016 after a decade of shuttling between London, Sao Paulo, and the East and West coasts of the U.S. He held appointments in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy at the University of California at Davis, the Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University, and the Department of Journalism and Publishing at the University of Sao Paulo. He holds a PhD and a MSc. in Communication Sciences from the University of Sao Paulo and a PhD (ABD) in Cultural Anthropology from Goethe University Frankfurt. He is an affiliate researcher of the Duke University's Network Analysis Center and the Data Science Initiative of the University of California at Davis. His research focuses on sociological aspects of digital media with a substantive interest in the cross-effects between online and offline social networks.
