Dr. Tarun K. Bhattacharya is presently working as ICAR-National Fellow at Project Directorate on Poultry, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. He has significant contribution in the field of Animal Genetics and Breeding, in particular Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology. He has developed new concepts (such as estimation of inbreeding coefficient using molecular data in case of missing record or non-availability of pedigree data; checking meat adulteration by DNA based techniques etc.), improved varieties like Krishibro, Krishi Layer and White Gramapriya varieties of chicken, technologies (Model for estimation of inbreeding coefficient; developed CD for buffalo informatics; molecular marker for milk quality traits; molecular markers for mastitis in cattle; molecular markers for egg quality traits; molecular markers for pashmina production in Changthangi goat; molecular marker for juvenile growth traits in broiler chicken; developed DNA bank of chicken). He has published 56 research articles in International Journals and 50 research articles in Indian Journals; authored 3 books and 2 booklets; edited 3 books; filed 2 patents, obtained trademarks for 2 varieties of chicken (Krishibro and Krishi Layer varieties of birds), besides 253 accession numbers obtained from NCBI Gene bank, USA. He has been conferred several awards including NAAS Young Scientist Award, NAAS Associate, Lal Bahadur Shastri Young Scientist Award, Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist Award, DBT Associateship etc. He has guided 5 M.V.Sc students and 1 Ph.D student as guide.
