Biography

Natascha Wagner is professor of Applied Economics & Development at the Nijmegen School of Management of Radboud University. She is in charge of the Global Data Lab, which develops databases and instruments for monitoring and analyzing the status and progress of societies. In its current version the database contains 133 indicators for 131 countries and 1,798 sub-national regions. Importantly, the Global Data Lab provides the Sub-national Human Development Index that uncovers human development in 1,600 regions within 160 countries. Moreover, the Global Data Lab provides a Vulnerability Index to assess climate vulnerability and national as well as sub-national geo-spatial data (temperature and precipitation) along with information on climate collaborations.

Prior to joining Radboud, she has been associate professor at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands). After completing her PhD at the Graduate Institute|Geneva, she further pursued her academic career at the ISS. Her research interests lie in international economics/ development, energy (needs and transition), climate change resilience and impacts as well as health and gender. She has participated in numerous impact evaluation projects in Africa and Asia ranging from good governance to public health and rural infrastructure programs and applying experimental as well as quasi-experimental impact evaluation techniques. She has been the lead principal investigator of a large scale randomized controlled trial on the impact of information and communication technology in promoting retention and adherence to antiretroviral treatment in Burkina Faso. Natascha has published articles in, among others, Journal of Human Resources, Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Health Economics, Economics of Education Review, Journal of Development Studies and World Development.
