Biography
The research work of Susana Castillo to date has focused on working toward a tighter integration of psychology in general into computer science.
In 2009, she started working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Diego Gutierrez as a Junior Researcher with the Graphics and Imaging Lab at the University of Zaragoza (Spain). In 2011, she received her Computer Engineering degree and continued performing research on perceptually as well as automatically assessing the quality of different image and video manipulation techniques. In 2013, she began working with the Department for Graphical Systems at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (Germany), where she got her PhD in Computer Science. Her thesis focused on mathematically specifying the spatio-temporal information present in real, dynamic facial expressions and then empirically determining the semantic meaning and perceptual importance of that information. The result is a detailed model of the human perception of facial expressions as well as more efficient and more effective facial animations. In 2019, she joined the Institute of computer Graphics in TU Braunschweig (Germany) as a post-doc where she is currently working as Akademische Rätin. In July 2020, she became an elected member of the Junge Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaftand, and in October 2024 she was admitted to the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD as voting member.
