Biography
I am an innovative and enthusiastic educator, committed to fostering positive learning and development in peer-, family-, and community-based contexts. I have been at the forefront of exploring and co-constructing new approaches with research participants in a variety of learning communities. My research interest focuses on developing a broader, and more enriched, understanding of the organisation of informal learning and teaching within everyday activities. Although informal learning activities are extensive, these learning spaces are relatively marginalised in relation to the formal education sector and continue to be undervalued.
My research is currently focused on learning and teaching in craft-maker cultures. Drawing upon sociocultural theory, my investigation of textile making activities develop and extend participation-based approaches to learning. Embodied and material aspects of collective creativity within recreational craft groups, advance understanding of collaborative inquiry processes and knowledge generation.
