Biography
Elena Badea gained his MSc in Food Chemistry and Engineering at the University “Dunarea de Jos” of Galati, Romania (1992) where she took the PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (2001). She was appointed to a tenured post as an assistant (1994) and then as a lecturer (1999) at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Craiova (Romania). In 2001 she was awarded a 6-month NATO Outreach fellowship the Department of Chemistry, University of Turin, Italy. From 2002 to 2010 she continued her research and didactic activities as scientist under contract at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Turin, and since 2011 to 2016 as invited researcher at the Department of Humanistic Studies of the same University. Since 2012 Dr Badea was appointed as Project Director at the National Research & Development Institute for Textiles and Leather, ICPI Division. Dr Badea's interests: thermodynamics of phase transitions and odd-even effect, solvation and hydrophobic-hydrophilic interaction of small model compounds, and advanced physical-chemical investigation of cultural heritage with particular focus on damage diagnosis and environmental monitoring, history and technology of parchment and leather making, innovative technologies and materials for parchment and leather green conservation.
Dr Badea is the delegate of the Romanian Chemistry Society to the EuCheMS Working Party on Chemistry for Cultural Heritage (WP CCH) and President and founder of the Romanian Association Science and Cultural Heritage in Connection (i-CON). She is the promoter and co-chair of the International Seminar and Workshop Cultural Heritage–Emerging Technology and Innovation (ETICH) which has reached its 4th edition in 2016.
