Biography

Kevin is a Senior Researcher in the Robert Owen Centre for Educational Change within the School of Education with a background in Sociology and education. He is also a member of the What Works Scotland and Policy Scotland teams at the University. Kevin has over 30 years experience in managing and conducting a range of national and international education research and evaluation projects. His research has focused on system reform and improvement; equity; STEM education; leadership and collaborative approaches for change; the use of evidence and enquiry and mobilising knowledge into action. Over the past three years, Kevin has also been the Scottish policy work package leader for the Horizon 2020 YOUNG_ADULLLT project. This has focused on international comparisons of Life Long Learning policies how they operate in their respective regional economies, the labour market, the education/training systems and the individual lives of young adults. Kevin has a leading role in research and development activity conducted by the Robert Owen Centre regarding promoting teachers’ Collaborative Action Research (CAR) and partnership working including our Network for Social & Educational Equity (NSEE) that supports practitioners and leaders to use data and evidence more effectively to help tackle educational inequity.

Kevin’s experience across interdisciplinary areas means he has expertise in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research methods as well as an in-depth understanding of the key processes and factors and policies that influence education and other systems. He lectures on research methods to post graduate students and provides CLPD to build practitioners’ self-evaluation capacity. He has a key role in international research and education networks, national advisory committees and has published and presented widely.
