Biography

Zhong-Shuai Wu obtained a PhD from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany during 2011-2015. Since June 2015, he joined DICP, CAS, and became a full Professor and group leader of 2D Materials & Energy Devices (DNL21T3). In January 2018, he was promoted to be a DICP Chair Professor, and in June 2020 become a formal Group leader of 2D Materials Chemistry & Energy Applications, affiliated with State Key Laboratory of Catalysis (SKLC).

His current scientific interests include the chemistry of graphene and two-dimensional materials, surface and nano-electrochemistry, and advanced nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications, including supercapacitors (e.g., electric double-layer capacitors, pseudocapacitors, lithium ion capacitors, asymmetric supercapacitors, hybrid supercapacitors), micro-supercapacitors, integrated micro-supercapacitors, planar supercapacitors, lithium ion batteries, Li-S/O2 batteries, Na/K/Al based batteries, all-solid-state batteries, flexible/microscacle and stretchable energy storage devices, and catalysis (e.g., ORR, OER, HER, CO2 reduction). He has published 200+ peer-reviewed papers (IF>10, 100+ papers) in Energy Environ. Sci. (5), Nat. Commun. (3), Adv. Mater. (15), J. Am. Chem. Soc. (8),Adv.Energy Mater. (9),ACS Nano (16), Adv. Funct. Mater. (10), Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (4), Nano Energy (7), Energy Storage Mater. (16), Natl Sci. Rev. (4), ACS Energy Lett., Adv. Sci. (2) etc., which have been cited more than 27000 times with Web of Science (> 32000 times by Google Scholar), H-index = 61. 32 papers are currently ESI "Highly Cited Paper". There are 16 papers that have each been cited >500 times, as well as 8 papers with each individually cited >1000 times. And the highest cited paper has a citation of 2146 times, selected as "Top 10 Highly-Cited Paper in China" over the past ten years (2006-2016). He is the 2018,2019,2020,2021 High Cited Researcher (Clarivate Analytics). Additionally, he has authored 2 book chapters, 50+ CN and EU patents, and presented more than 50+ Plenary, Keynote, Invited, and Oral talks.

He is a recipient of the National Natural Science Award (2nd class, 2017), National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2021), the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, 2019 Energy Storage Materials Young Scientist Award, Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Award (1st class, 2015), Distinguished Winner of the Carbon Journal Prize (2013), the Prize of Excellent Ph.D. Thesis of CAS (2012), the Special Prize of President Scholarship for Postgraduate Students of CAS (2011).

He is a member of National Technical Committee 279 on Nanotechnology of Standardization Administration of China, Member of CIGIU International Standardization Technical Committee, member of Technology Committee for Inner Mongolia Institute of Graphene Materials, member of Engineering Technology Committee for Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center of Low-Carbon and Advanced Energy Materials (2016).
