Biography
Graduated in 1980 from Buenos Aires University, he finished his specialization in Radiation Oncology in 1985. He moved to Uruguay in 1989, to work in Dr Leborgne’s department.
He continued his training as fellow in the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University in Saint Louis, with Carlos Perez and Perry Grigsby in 1995.
His major fields of interest are gynaecology, H&N, QA, and clinical radiobiology, in which he has published his work with Felix Leborgne, Jack Fowler and Jolyon Hendry.
He began his involvement with the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA as expert and lecturer in 1993. He joined the Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy Section of the Agency in 2004.
He has contributed to many Agency publications, and has been involved in the organization of QUATRO audits and expert missions, technical meetings, as well as training activities in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
He has been involved in 99 radiotherapy projects worldwide with a total budget of € 39 million as technical adviser, in 7 research studies as principal investigator, and is responsible for the Radiation Oncology Section of the IAEA - Human Health Campus website.
He is part of the IAEA Advisory Group on increasing access to Radiotherapy Technology in low and middle income countries (AGaRT), the Global Quality Assurance of Radiation Therapy Harmonisation Group, the ESTRO – HERO (Health Economics in Radiation Oncology) Task Force, as IAEA representative, and the UICC - Global Task Force on Radiotherapy for Cancer Control (GTFRCC).
